Tsunami in Motion at AAU Regionals

by admin on July 13, 2017

Over the weekend of June 30th, the AAU region 1 championships were held at Hub Stein field, in Plainfield and Tsunami athletes shined.
This was the first time that the championships were held in our city with athletes competing from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts and our children did an outstanding job, not only with big wins but with several new personal records being established.  Several athletes from our team placed in positions that qualified them to advance to the AAU nationals that will be held at the end of July in Detroit Michigan.
Our regional champions are:
Ajanae Thompson in both the midget girls 80 meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash

Abayomi Hazel in both the midget boys 1500 and 800 meter runs

Morgan Daley in the youth girls 3000 meter run

Jenai Berry in the midget girls 800 meter run

Paige Sheppard in the primary girls 800-meter run.
There were several other outstanding efforts which did not go unnoticed such as:
2nd place finishers:
Ajanae Thompson midget girls 100-meter dash

Avery Jordan youth girls 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter hurdles

Jada Mia Puryear Sub youth girls 200 meter hurdles and 4th place 200-meter run (I will speak more to this later)

Jenai Berry midget girls 400-meter dash

Morgan Daley youth girls 1500 meter run

Other qualifiers were

Celine Brown 3rd place sub youth long jump

Aniyah Charles sub youth girls 5th place 200 and 400 meter run and 6th place 100-meter dash

Abayomi Hazel midget 400 meter run

Ebony Turner 4th place sub bantam long jump

Morgan Daley 5th place youth girls 800

Sydney Chadwick 5th place sub bantam girls 200

Sydney Roach 6th place youth girls 200.
Back to Jada Mia. Jada was very sick on the weekend of our district meet and the only way for her to qualify was to run in a different qualifying meet (Philadelphia) and different region but even though she had to go a different route than the rest of the team, she persevered through and can now travel to Michigan with the rest of the team.
There were other performances, while they did not qualify for nationals they were none the less big time PR’s for our hard-working athletes.
Great Job to all…
The Coaches
